Understanding Bitcoin network metrics
This dashboard streams the state of the Bitcoin network straight from our self-hosted Bitcoin Core full node, with no third-party API. The interactive view above refreshes every 30 seconds; the dated snapshot at the top of the page is regenerated server-side every hour, so the latest values stay readable even without JavaScript.
Network hashrate (EH/s)
The hashrate is the total computing power securing Bitcoin, expressed in exahashes per second (EH/s). 1 EH/s is a quintillion SHA-256 hashes per second. It cannot be measured directly: it is estimated from the pace of recent blocks against the current difficulty (we average over the last 144 blocks, roughly 24 hours). A rising hashrate means more competition for the same block rewards, so every miner’s expected revenue per TH/s mechanically drops.
Difficulty and adjustment
Difficulty calibrates how hard it is to find a valid block, so that one is produced every 10 minutes on average. Every 2,016 blocks (~2 weeks), the protocol compares the actual pace of the past epoch to that target and adjusts difficulty proportionally (bounded to ±4×). Blocks too fast: difficulty rises; too slow: it falls. The estimate shown above is derived from the average block time of the current epoch; it sharpens as the target block approaches.
Hashprice ($/PH/day)
Hashprice condenses mining economics into a single number: the expected daily revenue for 1 PH/s of hashrate, in USD. It rises with the BTC price and average transaction fees, and falls when difficulty climbs. Compare it to your electricity cost per PH to know instantly whether a fleet is profitable. That is exactly what our profitability calculator does with this live data.
Mempool and fees
The mempool is the waiting room for unconfirmed transactions. Its size in megabytes signals congestion: when it swells, users bid up fees to make it into the next block, which raises the fee share of miner revenue. The fee levels shown here come straight from our node’s fee estimator.
