How this Bitcoin mining profitability calculator works

Bitcoin mining profitability comes down to a simple balance: the dollar value of the BTC your machine earns each day, minus the electricity it burns to earn it. The revenue side is driven by hashprice, the market-wide income per petahash per second per day. Your daily revenue is your hashrate (TH/s) divided by 1,000, multiplied by the current hashprice. Hashprice itself moves with the Bitcoin price, network difficulty and transaction fees, which is why a static spreadsheet goes stale within days.

The cost side is set by your ASIC's efficiency, measured in joules per terahash (J/TH), and your electricity rate in $/kWh. Power draw (W) = hashrate × efficiency; multiply by 24 hours to get the daily energy bill. At $0.06/kWh, a modern machine at 15 J/TH spends roughly half of what a 25 J/TH unit spends to produce the same hashrate. Efficiency is the single biggest lever on mining margins.

Your break-even is the electricity price where revenue per kWh equals its cost: revenue per kWh = hashprice ÷ (24 × efficiency in J/TH). Rule of thumb for 2026: below $0.06/kWh most recent ASICs are comfortably profitable; between $0.06 and $0.09/kWh you need latest-generation efficiency; above $0.10/kWh mining rarely pays.
